DAVID CITY -- The Wymore Legion Juniors advanced to the Class C State Tournament on Tuesday while the Hickman Juniors advanced in Class B.
Wymore defeated top-seeded Wilber 8-6 in the championship game of the C4 Area Tournament in David City.
Wymore opened the tournament as the No. 7 seed and opened with a 13-4 win over second-seeded Tri County. They then defeated third-seeded David City 7-6 on Saturday.
A 9-3 win over Louisville-Weeping Water on Sunday left Wymore as the only unbeaten team in the bracket, which guaranteed them a spot in Tuesday's championship game.
Despite that, Wymore still had to play Wilber on Monday night, but suffered a 21-11 setback, meaning every remaining team in the bracket had one loss.
In Tuesday's first game, Wilber beat David City 6-5 to advance to the championship game where Wymore would win 8-6.
Wymore will open state tournament play on Saturday at 7 p.m. against host team Battle Creek. A win would get them another 7 p.m. game on Sunday against the winner of Pender and SOS. A loss would give them a 1 p.m. elimination game against the loser of Pender/SOS.
On the other side of the Class C State Tournament bracket, Imperial plays Creighton and St. Paul plays DCB. The tournament lasts through Wednesday.
The Hickman Juniors went through the B1 Area Tournament unscathed. They were the No. 4 seed and they beat fifth-seeded Hickman Blues 20-10 in the first round before beating top-seeded Auburn 19-8 in the second round.
In the third round, they beat third-seeded Syracuse 16-0. on Monday, Hickman beaet EMN 10-7 before beating Auburn in the championship game on Tuesday 12-4.
Hickman will open the Class B State Tournament in Columbus against Alliance at 10 a.m. on Saturday. With a win, they'd play at 4 p.m. on Sunday against the winner of ETC/McCook.
On the other side of the Class B bracket, Ashland plays Wayne and Central City plays Columbus Lakeview.
