SEWARD -- The Beatrice boys and girls basketball teams went on the road and defeated Seward on Saturday.
The two games were originally scheduled for Friday, but winter weather forced them to be postponed until Saturday afternoon.
The Beatrice boys -- ranked No. 5 in Class B -- defeated Seward 49-34. They led 8-6 after the first quarter and 21-17 at half time.
The Blue Jays closed the gap to 30-28 in the third quarter, but the Orangemen outscored Seward 19-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
Jace Pethoud led the Beatrice offense with 18 points while Elliot Jurgens had 13 points. Kaden Glynn had nine points, Bennett Crandall had five points and Tucker Timmerman and Josiah Wallman had two points each.
The Beatrice boys improves to 7-2 on the season and will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to Aurora.
The Beatrice girls team defeated Seward 69-29 on Saturday.
The Lady O took a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. they led 32-8 at half time and 44-22 after three quarters. They then outscored Seward 25-8 in the final quarter to get the 40 point win.
Olivia Aden led the way for Beatrice with 17 points while Mak Hatcliff had 16 points and Carley Leners had 15 points.
Navaeh Martinez and Lexi Schwartz had six points each, Morgan Mahoney had three points and Whitney Schwisow, Addie Barnard, Hailey Schaaf and Chelsea Leners had two points each.
The Lady O improves to 8-2 on the season. They will be in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Waverly.
