SIDNEY -- The Beatrice boys basketball team rattled off three straight wins to claim the Cabela's Holiday Tournament Championship in Sidney.

The Orangemen defeated Laramie, Wyo 64-47 in the championship game on Saturday.

Beatrice's came out on fire offensively in the first half, scoring 21 points in each of the first two quarters. They led 42-28 at half time.

The Orangemen maintained a 51-38 lead after three quarters and held on in the fourth quarter for the 64-47 win.

Dillon Buss led the Beatrice offense with 19 points while Trevor Schmale had 13 points and Graham Southwick had 10 points.

Also scoring for the Orangemen were Andrew Mahoney with nine points, Colton Gronewold with eight points, Brayden Frerichs and Caleb Wallman with two points each and Griffen Vater with one point.

Beatrice reached the championship game by defeating Sidney on Friday 59-45.

The Orangemen trailed the host team 16-10 after the first quarter, but their defense held Sidney to two points in the second quarter. The Orangemen led 26-18 at the half.

Beatrice maintained a 41-32 lead after three quarters before going on to win 59-45.

Dillon Buss led the way for Beatrice with 15 points while Andrew Mahoney had 14 points. Logan Hutt had nine points, Colton Gronewold and Graham Southwick had eight points each and Caleb Wallman had five points.

With the wins, Beatrice improves their record to 5-5 on the season. They will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Seward.

The Beatrice girls team won their third place game over Chase County 54-43 on Saturday.

Michaela Jones led the team in scoring with 23 points while Addie Barnard had eight points, Carley Leners had seven points, Haley Sexton had five points, Mak Hatcliff and Olivia Aden had four points each and Whitney Schwisow had three points.

The Lady O fell to the third place game after a loss to Class B No. 10 Sidney on Friday 48-35.

Jones had 19 points in the loss while Barnard had five, Hatcliff and Jenna Junker had three each and Schwisow, Leners and Jessican Fujan had two each.

Beatrice is now 5-2 on the season and they will also travel to Seward on Friday.
