The East edged out the West in the Southeast Nebraska All-Star basketball game, but the West prevailed in the girls game.
The East won the boys game 97-96 Saturday night at the Truman Center on the campus of Southeast Community College in Beatrice.
The East opened a 29-15 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 55-48 lead at half time.
The West came back to take a 77-75 lead in the third quarter. The East outscored the West 22-19 in the final quarter to win 97-96.
Despite being on the losing end, Tri County's Creighton Niemeyer was named the game's MVP, which was decided by the coaches and media attending the game.
Niemeyer finished with 17 points, two rebounds and one assist. He was 7 of 9 from the field and 3 of 4 from three point range.
Waverly's Benjamin Carter led the way for the winning East team with 20 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Two other East players finished in double digits scoring. Syracuse's Will McCoy finished with 17 points while Waverly's Alex Murray finished with 13 points.
Freeman's Logan Anderson and Falls City's Collin Cook had nine points each; Freeman's Brady Ideus and Tyler Adams had seven points each; Sterling's Logan Jasa and Southern's Drake Adams had five points each; Nebraska City's Bryce Levy had four points and Norris' Jay Knudsen had one point. Kundsen also had nine rebounds for the East.
The West had five other players score in double figures in addition to Niemeyer's 17 points.

Milford's Bragan Meyers and Nate Mensik as well as Seward's Kelly Vyhnalek had 14 points each. Wilber-Clatonia's Regie Homolka had 13 points and Sutton's Seth George had 10 points.
Also scoring for the West was Tri County's Evan Larson with eight, Sutton's Jordan Davis with four and Fairbury's Isaac Robertson with two. Jordan Davis had 10 rebounds in the game.
Also on the West team was Meridian's Fred Kujath and Mario Garcia and Fillmore Central's Carson Scott.
In the girls all-star game earlier in the evening, the West jumped out to a 23-19 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 46-41 lead at half time. They led 65-53 after three quarters and held on for the 82-76 win in the fourth quarter.
Seward's Kayla Luebbe was named the game's MVP. She finished with 10 points, six rebounds and one assist for the winning West team.
Deshler's Sydney Roth had 16 points and three rebounds for the West while Wilber-Clatonia's Shaylee Bloom had 10 points and five rebounds.
Also scoring for the West was Friend's Bridgette Baugh, Thayer Central's Grace Souerdyke and Exeter-Milligan's Kate Jansky with nine points each. Heartland's Kate Bergan and Centennial's Brookly Gierhan had six each; Seward's Bailee Baack had four and Tri County's Shaylee Niemeyer had three. McCool Junction's Hadley Wiemer was also on the West team.
Freeman's Macy Holland led the East all-stars with 14 points and nine rebounds while Syracuse's Sarah Moss had 13 points, Waverly's Abigail Clarke had 12 points and Johnson-Brock's Jayse Koeler had 19 points. Clark also had 13 rebounds -- nine of which were offensive rebounds.
Other scorers for the East include Waverly's Sydni Schernikau with eight points; Southern's Mariah Murphy and Sterling's Carly Wenzl with five points each; Norris' Madelyn Ramsey with four points; Sterling's Malayna Wingert with three points and Waverly's Averie Lambrecht with two points.Lambrecht also had nine rebounds and four assists.
Also on the East roster was Auburn's Ashley Teten and Falls City Sacred Heart's Elizabeth Keithley.
