HTRS outlasts Pawnee City in MUDECAS B Division


Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer knocked off Pawnee City Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the MUDECAS B Division.

The sixth-seeded Titans won the game 47-44 and will now play at 8 p.m. on Thursday against second-seeded Diller-Odell.

HTRS held a 43-42 lead over Pawnee City with two minutes left in the game and two free throws by Andrew Stalder extended that lead to 45-42.

Brayden Horst came back with a basket for Pawnee City to make it 45-44 with 1:37 left in the game. Both teams traded turnovers and then HTRS was able to run 30 seconds off the clock before finally being fouled with 32.2 seconds left int he game.

Isaiah Lockard made both free throws to extend the HTRS lead back to 47-44. The Titans then foul three times because Pawnee City wasn't in the bonus yet, leaving just four seconds left on the clock.

Pawnee City's inbound pass got tipped and goes into the back court. A last second heave to the hoop missed, preserving the win for HTRS.

Lockard led the way for HTRS with 17 points while Nic Knudson had 14 points and Donovan Kostecka had eight points. Chase Hardesty and Andrew Stalder had four points each.

TJ Mawhiney led Pawnee City with 20 points while Brayden Horst had nine, Shamar Willey had six, Kodenn Koester had five and Kyle Gyhra and Simon Osborne had two points each.

Pawnee City will play in a consolation game at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday against seventh-seeded Lewiston.

Diller-Odell 54, Lewiston 53

Diller-Odell is the No. 2 seed in the MUDECAS B Division and they held on to beat seventh-seeded Lewiston 54-53.

Lewiston had a 49-47 lead with 58.5 seconds left in the game after two free throws by Levi Meybrunn.

With 44.4 seconds left, Diller-Odell's Jacob Meyer hit a three pointer to give the Griffins a 50-49 lead.

A drive to the basket by Hayden Christen gave the Tigers the lead back 51-49. Lewiston almost gets a steal on Diller-Odell's next possession, but Tuner Faxon was fould and he made both free throws with 21.2 seconds left to give the Griffins a 52-51 lead.

Levi Meybrun was able to get a shot underneath the basket with 11.6 seconds left and he got fouled in the process. He missed the free throw, though, keeping Lewiston's lead at 53-52.

Turner Faxon then got the ball near the corner baseline and scored a basket to give Diller-Odell a 54-53 lead with 2.7 seconds left.

Hayden Christen's half court attempt missed its mark, giving the Griffins the 54-53 win.

Diller-Odell was led in scoring by Jacob Meyer, who finished with 10 points. Turner Faxon and Conner Klecan had nine points each, Austin Jurgens and Paxton Mohr had eight points each, Cooper Ebeling had five points, Kaden Sutton had three points and Korey Theye had two points.

Lewiston was led by Jonathan Janssen and Hayden Christen, who had 17 points each while Levi Meyrbunn had 16 points. Mathew Barker added three points.

With the win, Diller-Odell advances to the semifinals against sixth-seeded HTRS at 8 p.m. Thursday at Southeast Community College.

Lewiston will play in a consolation game against Pawnee City at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday at SCC.

Exeter-Milligan 58, Meridian 32

Exeter-Milligan is the top seed in the MUDECAS B Division. They defeated eighth-seeded Meridian 58-32 to advance to the semifinals.

Exeter-Milligan will play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's late game between fourth-seeded Sterling and fifth-seeded Southern. That game was not over by press time Tuesday night.

Meridian will play the loser of Sterling/Southern at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday in a consolation game.
