Jets fall at home to Palmyra

STERLING -- The Sterling Jets fell behind early against Palmyra and couldn't recover.

The Jets fell to Palmyra 67-22 Tuesday night at Sterling High School.

Palmyra exploded out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter and then extended that lead to 38-11 at half time.

The Panthers continued to extend that lead to 55-18 in the third quarter, allowing them to coast to the win in the fourth quarter.

Sam Boldt led Sterling in scoring with 12 points while Diego Sterkel had five points and Colbey Nielsen had four points. Kaleb Masur added one point.

Sterling falls to 4-6 on the season and will be in action again on Thursday when they host Dorchester. They will travel to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer on Friday.

The Jets will also compete in the MUDECAS Tournament in Beatrice next week. They are the No. 4 seed in the B Division and will play Tuesday at 8 p.m. against fifth-seeded Southern at Southeast Community College.

A win would get them a semifinal game against either top-seeded Exeter-Milligan or eighth-seeded Meridian.

Palmrya is also in the MUDECAS Tournament. They are the fifth seed iin the A Division and they will also play at 8 p.m. against fourth-seeded Freeman. That game will be at the Beatrice City Auditorium. The winner of that will play in the semifinals against either top-seeded Parkview Christian or eighth-seeded Johnson-Brock.

Lewiston beats Meridian

The Lewiston Tigers won a Sunland battle over Meridian 53-32 Tuesday night at Meridian High School.

Lewiston jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 37-17 at half time. They continued to add to the lead in the third quarter before holding on for the 53-32 win.

Levi Meybrunn led the way for Lewiston with 14 points while Mathew Barker had 13 points, Hayden Christen had nine points, Jon Janssen had eight points, Daniel Gonzalez had five points and Abel Gonzalez had four points.

Corin Paul led Meridian with 14 points while Brayden Rut had eight points and Angelo Herrera and Patrick Williams had five points each.

Lewiston (3-5) will  travel to Cedar Bluffs on Friday and Omaha Christian on Saturday. Meridian (0-9) will travel to McCool Junction on Friday.

Lewiston is the seventh seed in the MUDECAS B Division next week while Meridian is the eighth seed in the B Division.
