SEWARD -- The Beatrice girls basketball team kept pace early, but Seward pulled away late in the B-4 Subdistrict semifinals on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Lady O fell to top-seeded Seward 53-42 at Seward High School.

Seward advanced to play third-seeded Norris on Tuesday night. Norris advanced by upsetting Class B No. 1 Crete on Monday night. The Norris/Crete game was not over by press time Tuesday night.

Beatrice will have to wait until all the subdistrict tournaments are concluded to see if their season will continue.

The eight subdistrict winners along with the next eight best non-subdistrict winners will be seeded and placed into district championship games this Saturday. The winner of those eight games will advance to state.

Entering Tuesday night's games, Beatrice was No. 17 in wildcard points in Class B.

The Lady O used the three ball to keep pace with Seward early. The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter with all nine of Beatrice's points coming from three point land. Olivia Aden had two of those three pointers while Mak Hatcliff had the other.

Seward controlled most of the second quarter. They went on a 8-0 run to make it 17-9. Aden finished the second quarter with another three pointer to make it 17-12 at half time.

Addie Barnard opened the third quarter with a three pointer to make it 19-17, but Seward went on a 10-0 run from there to make it 29-17.

Beatrice gave themselves a chance by finishing the third quarter on a 5-0 run. Barnard and Alexis Schwartz both scored baskets during the run while Navaeh Martinez had a free throw.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Martinez answered a Seward three pointer with a basket in the post. She then answered another Seward basket with a put back basket to make it 32-24.

Carley Leners then answered a Seward basket with two free throws. After another Seward basket, Aden knocked down her fourth three pointer of the game to cut the Lady O deficit to 36-29.

Seward got a three point play to extend the lead back to 10 with 2:28 left in the game.

Beatrice cut the deficit to 43-36 when Hatcliff connected with a three pointer with 1:27 left, but that's all the closer they would get. Seward made enough plays down the stretch to eventually win 53-42.

Aden led the way for Beatrice with 15 points while Barnard had seven, Hatcliff had six, Martinez had five, Leners had four, Hailey Schaaf had three and Alexis Schwartz had two.

Kayla Luebbe led the way for Seward with 20 points. The Blue Jays are 18-4 on the season.

Beatrice falls to 9-11 on the season. They will know their postseason fate after subdistrict games are concluded Wednesday night.
