Southern, HTRS to play for B division title

Two Sunland girls teams will square off in the girls MUDECAS B Division Championship.

The top-seeded Southern Lady Raiders advanced to the finals after beating fifth-seeded Pawnee City 30-24 in the semifinals.

Southern led 8-7 after the first quarter, but Pawnee City was able to take a 13-11 lead going into half time.

The Lady Indians hung on to a 17-13 lead after three quarters, but Southern would outscore Pawnee City 17-7 in the final quarter to get the 30-24 win.

Southern was led by Kambree Singleton's eight points while Kaylee Klover had seven, Janessa Cooper had six, Tori Smith had four, Claire Hookstra and Maddie Wegner had two each and Callie Cooper had one.

Krista Menninga led the way for Pawnee City with 12 points while Reyana Tegtmeier and Austin Branch had six points each.

The Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer girls are also headed to the MUDECAS B Division Championship game.

The second-seeded Lady Titans defeated third-seeded Johnson County Central 60-36 Thursday in the semifinals at Southeast Community College.

JCC led 14-12 after the first quarter, but HTRS took a 22-18 lead into the locker room at half time.

The Lady Titans extended that lead to 38-29 after three quarters before pulling away in the final quarter.

HTRS was led by Katilyn Glathar's 17 points while Carissa Allen had 14 points and Natalie Novak had 13 points. Ellie Schaard and Peyton Schaardt had six points each while Gracie Shafer had four points.

JCC was led by Dakotah Ludemann's 18 points while Jazi Ascheman had seven, Zadie Plager, Jordan Huntzeker and Monica Thipphavong had three each and Emma Swanda had two points.

HTRS will play Southern at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Beatrice City Auditorium for the B Division championship. JCC will play Pawnee City in a third place game at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the auditorium.

Southern boys advance to B championship

The Southern boys will also play for a B Division championship on Saturday.

The fifth-seeded Raiders knocked off top-seeded Exeter-Milligan 55-48 in the semifinals Thursday night at Southeast Community College.

Southern will play that championship game at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Beatrice City Auditorium against the winner of Thursday's late semifinal game between sixth-seeded HTRS and second-seeded Diller-Odell. That game was not over by press time Thursday night.

Exeter-Milligan will play in a third place game at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday against the loser of HTRS/Diller-Odell.
