The Sunland had one of its six softball teams make it to the state tournament in 2017.

The Fairbury Lady Jeffs finished the season with a 24-9 record and qualified for the Class C State Tournament, where they finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and were eliminated by Arlington.

The remaining Sunland teams -- Beatrice, Norris, Wilber-Clatonia, Southern and Freeman -- all finished with records below .500, but most had to deal with much younger lineups than previous years.

The following is the 2017 All-Sunland Softball Team as chosen by the Beatrice Daily Sun sports editor

IF Addison Barnard, Beatrice

Sophomore Addison Barnard is well on her way to shattering the state home run record next year if she stays healthy. She finished the 2017 season with a .636 average. She also had 19 home runs, 51 RBI's and 47 runs scored.

IF Jaelle Johnson, Fairbury

Sophomore Jaelle Johnson helped lead Fairbury to the 2017 Class C State Tournament. She finished with a .388 average, one home run, 24 RBI's and 34 runs scored for the Lady Jeffs.

IF Lindsay Homolka, Wilber-Clatonia

Wilber-Clatonia was led by senior Lindsay Homolka. She finished the season with a .44 batting average. She also scored 34 runs for the Lady Wolverines and drove in 24.

IF Olivia Ozenbaugh, Norris

Olivia Ozenbaugh was the offensive leader for the Norris Titans in 2017. She finished the season with a .389 average and seven home runs. She scored 22 runs and drove in 32 runs.

IF Carli Kohout, Norris

Not far behind Olivia Ozenbaugh offensively was Carli Kohout. She finished the season with a .384 average and two home runs. She also scored 20 runs and drove in 25 runs.

OF Cora DeBoer, Fairbury

Sophomore outfielder Cora DeBoer was also a force offensively for the state qualifying Lady Jeffs. She finished with a .422 average and six home runs. She also scored 23 runs and drove in 39.

OF Mikayla Bletscher, Beatrice

Beatrice senior Mikayla Bletscher was a force in the middle of the Lady O lineup. She hit .304 with two home runs. She also scored 15 runs and drove in 19.

OF Matti Barnts, Southern

Senior Matti Barnts was one of the offensive leaders for Wymore Southern in 2017. She finished the season with a .348 average and one home run. She had 19 RBI's and scored 10 runs.

P Delaney Miller, Fairbury

Fairbury's success in 2017 had a lot to do with Delaney Miller's performance in the circle. She pitched 132 innings and had a 19-7 record. She finished with a 3.10 ERA and struck out 116 batters.

C Ashton Sandman, Beatrice

Another force in the middle of the Beatrice lineup was junior Ashton Sandman. The Lady O backstop hit .364 with six home runs. She scored 11 runs and drove in 23 runs.

C Rae Ann Hartwig, Freeman

Freeman's sophomore catcher Rae Ann Hartwig was the offensive leader for her team in 2017. She hit .400 with two home runs while scoring 24 runs and driving in 17 runs.

DP Sydni Kunc, Wilber-Clatonia

Senior Sydni Kunc hit .446 for Wilber-Clatonia and blasted two home runs. She scored 10 runs and drove in 26. Kunc also pitched 141.2 innings for the Lady Wolverines and had 191 strikeouts.

DP Macy Ohlde, Fairbury

Fairbury senior Macy Ohlde hit .388 for the Lady Jeffs and had four home runs. She also scored 23 runs and drove in 29 runs. She contributed 70 innings pitching and finished with a 5-2 record, had a 2.92 ERA and struck out 28.

DP Lindsey Pressler, Norris

Lindsey Pressler was a key contributor for Norris both offensively and defensively. On offense, she hit .362 and had six home runs. She drove in 28 runs and scored 10 runs. She was also Norris' most used pitcher.
