Creighton Prep senior and Nebraska basketball signee Akol Arop was named the 2019 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year on Friday after averaging 19.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game as a senior.
Arop led the Junior Jays to the state tournament before falling to fellow Nebraska recruit Donovan Williams and Lincoln North Star in the first round.
In 2018-19, the 6-foot-6 Arop shot 62 percent from the field. Over his four-year career, the future Husker scored 1,268 points and snagged 733 rebounds for Creighton Prep.
Past winners of the award are Shereef Mitchell (Omaha Burke) in 2018, Teddy Allen (Boys Town) in 2017 and Aguek Arop (Omaha South, and Akol's brother) in 2016.
