Beatrice golfers having a solid week

  • Updated

The Beatrice girls golf team continued a solid week of play with a dual win over Norris on Tuesday.

The Lady O hosted the dual at Beatrice County Club and they beat the Titans 203-193.

Beatrice previously played at the Crete Invite and finished runner-up. Their score of 385 was bested only by Elkhorn South's score of 373.

Norris finished third with a score of 406 while Seward and Lincoln Pius X finished tied for fourth with a score of 406.

"This was our second tournament of the week and it was a lot like the Fairbury Invite," said Beatrice Coach Dick Stuart. "The difference was Elkhorn South was a little better than us and we finished second."

Mackenzie Barnard led the way for Beatrice with a score of 92, which was good enough for third place while Sydney Southwick shot a 94, which was good enough for fourth place. Payton Neumaber shot a 98, which was good for eight place.

Abby Jones and Makenna Parde rounded out the Beatrice scoring with a 101 and 107.

"Sydney and Mackenzie got us off to a good start and Payton and Abby played well on the back," Stuart said. "It was good to get four individual medals and shoot our best score of the year."

Norris was led by Grace Gutzmer's fifth place score of 96 while Carrie Driskell shot a nine place score of 99. Emma Severson shot a 101, Faith Ebbers shot a 110 and Emma Weekly shot a 114.

Fairbury also competed at the meet and Casey Nimmich led the way for them with a 109 and Lauren Patton shot a 117. Ericka Kroeker rounded out the Fairbury scoring with a 146.

Tri County finished seventh and they were led by Carissa Lijewski's 104 while Paige Bartels shot a 112, Taryn VanEpersen shot a 125, Haley Pearson shot a 126 and Mya Maxwell shot a 136.

The Beatrice golf team will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to the Lincoln Pius X Invite.

"We know we still have a number of things to work on," Stuart said. "We need to keep working hard and get better everyday."
