The Beatrice Coop swimming and diving teams traveled to the Elkhorn Invite on Saturday.

The girls team finished fifth out of 11 teams while the boys team finished 11th.

"We are very proud of how well our swimmers did at this meet," said Beatrice Coach Marian Wallen. "We always know each them will be pushed to perform their best against some of the best swimmers in the state at this meet."

Wallen said the stiff competition they faced on Saturday will only help them as their season winds down.

"Our River City Conference meet is this weekend, so this meet always helps us prepare for the conference meet," Wallen said. "We are hoping the many of our swimmers that have been out ill the past couple of weeks, will be recovered and healthy enough to return to competition."

Junior Colton Starck had a goal of getting an automatic qualifying time in the 50-freestyle. He had improved his time every meet, but hadn't met that goal-- until Saturday.

"He accomplished that goal at this meet," Wallen said. "He also had a secondary qualifying time in his 100 butterfly. Colton is a dedicated swimmer and it will be fun to see how far he goes at State."

The girls 400-freestyle relay team of Mikasa Lierman, Maya Moran, Maddy Wagner and Mikwena Lierman also had an automatic state qualifying time.

Wagner, a senior, also had a secondary state qualifying time in the 100-butterfly.

"Being a senior and having been a member of the state swim team since she was a freshman, I know Maddy is always working hard to return to state this season," Wallen said.

Beatrice had two medalists. Mikwena Lierman finished second in the 50-freestyle and Starck finished third in the 50-freestyle.

Beatrice also had many personal best times, including Morgan McCubbin in the 200 freestyle; Lauren Havlet in the 200 freestyle; Colton Starck in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Camryn Wisnieski in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Carson Monhollon in the 50 freestyle; Michael Walsh in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and  Silas Jurgens in the 50 freestyle.

Other personal best times include Tyler Rice in the 50 freestyle; Sam Fortner in the 50 freestyle; Nick Wiitulski in the 50 freestyle; Blaine Kujath in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Maddy Wagner in the 100 butterfly; Josi Mans in the 100 freestyle; Cameron Knepp in the 100 freestyle; Cullen Papenhagen in the 100 freestyle; Joe Wright in the 100 freestyle; Matilda Saunders in the 500 freestyle; Ellie Lenners in the 500 freestyle
