Freeman's quest for a MUDECAS volleyball championship came to an end in the semifinals Tuesday night.

In the A Division late game, third-seeded Freeman fell to second-seeded Bruning-Davenport-Shickley in straight sets 25-20, 25-21.

With the win, BDS advances to play three time defending state champion Johnson-Brock Thursday night in the championship game at 8 p.m.

The Lady Falcons fall into a third place match against Diller-Odell at 5 p.m. Thursday night.

In the first set Tuesday night, Freeman fell into a 6-1 hole early, but three straight points by the Falcons made it 6-4. Kayla Haynes had a block and also combined with Macy Holland for a double block during that run.

BDS answered with a point, but Josalynn Podtburg came back with a kill to make it 7-5. BDS scored five of the game's next six poins to make it 12-6.

Freeman got back into it after a kill from Emma Alberts, a double block by Alberts and Ashley Oltman and a kill by Ashley Parde made it 12-9.

BDS would build its lead to 17-12, but three straight points, including two ace serves from Haynes, made it 17-15.

The Eagles built their lead back up to 22-16, forcing Freeman to take a time out. They scored two straight points out of the timeout, including an ace serve by Josalynn Podtburg made it 22-18.

BDS came back with two straight points to make it 24-18. A kill by Haynes followed by another Freeman point got the Falcons back within four, but BDS finally ended it at 25-20.

Freeman's block got them an early lead in the second set. After the two teams exchanged points to make it 1-1, Haynes started a run of three straight blocks for the Falcons. After her solo block, she combined with Podtburg for a block and then with Holland to make it 4-1 early.

The Lady Eagles came back with four straight points to take a 5-4 lead. Freeman came back to take a 6-5 lead, but that would be their last lead of the game.

BDS led throughout, but never by more than four points as they went on to win 25-21 to take the match 2-0.

Freeman falls to 10-3 on the season. Their third place match against Diller-Odell Thursday night is slated for 5 p.m. at the Truman Center at SCC.

BDS improves to 8-1 and their championship match against Johnson-Brock is slated for 8 p.m. at the Truman Center.

Their is one other A Division match on Thursday. Exeter-Milligan will play Falls City Sacred Heart in a consolation match at 2 p.m. at the Truman Center.
