Hinz, Lempka selected for Shrine Bowl

LINCOLN - Two Sunland senior football players have been selected to play in the 2010 Nebraska Shrine Bowl Classic football game.

Beatrice’s Jesse Hinz and Sterling’s Zach Lempka be teammates on the South squad for the Saturday, June 19 game.

The Shrine Bowl will be played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln and annually showcases some of the top high school football seniors.

Proceeds from the game go to benefit the Shriners Hospitals.

Hinz recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at North Dakota State University in Fargo.

The Beatrice senior was an all-state lineman, playing on both sides of the ball.

Lempka has accepted a scholarship offer to play football at Peru State College.

A two-way player in high school, Lempka will be playing defensive end for the Bobcats.

Joining Hinz and Lempka on the south roster will be former Firth Norris coach Jeff Reed.

Reed, who resigned his head coaching position at Norris at the end of the 2009 season, will serve as an assistant coach.

Kevin Kush of Boys Town will be head coach for the South team.

Former Hanover, Kan., head coach Mike Speirs of Howells will serve as head coach for the North team.
