SYRACUSE -- The Johnson County Central volleyball team defeated Wilber-Clatonia in three sets during a triangular Tuesday at Syracuse.
The Lady Thunderbirds beat came from behind to beat the Wolverines 25-27, 25-13, 25-20 in the second match of the night.
In the third match of the night, JCC fell to host team and Class C1 No. 6 Syracuse in two sets 25-5, 25-16.
Despite picking up the win, JCC coach Sue Borcher said her team can play much better.
"We hurt ourselves with unforced errors and inconsistent communication throughout both matches," Borcher said.
In the first match of the triangular, Syracuse defeated Wilber-Clatonia 25-7, 25-12.
JCC is now 2-2 on the season and will be in action again on Thursday when they host Palmyra. JCC will also be part of the MUDECAS Tournament field next week in Beatrice.
Wilber-Clatonia falls to 1-7 on the season and will be in action again Tuesday when they travel to Malcolm.
Lady O falls to defending champs
OMAHA -- The Beatrice girls volleyball team traveled to Class B No. 2 Omaha Skutt Tuesday night and fell to the three time defending state champs in three sets.
The Lady O fell 25-12, 25-16, 25-19, dropping their record to 2-3 on the season.
Mariah Allen led the way for the Lady O with 11 kills while Ally Thavenet had six kills, Ava Lovitt had three kills, Hailey Schaaf had two kills and McKenzie Osborne and Devyn Burroughs had one kill each.
Osborne had 13 assists while Lovitt dished out nine assists. Osborne had two ace serves and Thavenet had one ace serve.
Defensively, Burroughs had three total blocks, Schaaf had two blocks and Allen had one block. Mak Hatcliff had 20 digs while Thavenet had 18 digs, Osborne had 17 digs and Lovitt had 16 digs.
The Lady O will travel to the Neumann Volleyball Tournament on Saturday and will open against Douglas County West at 10 a.m.
Other teams in the tournament field are Omaha Gross, Bennington, LVSS, Battle Creek, York, and Bishop Neumann.
Freeman takes down rival Sterling
ADAMS -- The Freeman Lady Falcons defeated Sterling in straight sets Tuesday night 25-19, 25-20, 25-18.
With the win, the Lady Falcons improve to 6-2 on the season and travel to Lourdes CC on Thursday. They will play in the Friend Invite on Saturday before competing in the MUDECAS Tournament in Beatrice next week.
Sterling falls to 1-4 on the season and they will host a triangular with Falls City and Pawnee City on Thursday. They will also be part of the MUDECAS Tournament field next week.
Diller-Odell takes down Sacred Heart
FALLS CITY -- The Diller-Odell volleyball team swept through Falls City Sacred Heart Tuesday night 25-23, 25-20, 25-16.
Diller-Odell coach Kandice Jurgens said they welcomed back an injured starter, which helped them play much better than they did last week.
"We played more like the way I expect us to play," Jurgens said. "I thought we did a good job of controlling the speed of the game and our passing and defense was much improved."
Kirsten Bures pounded home 18 kills while Mackenzie Vitosh and Addison Heidemann had 10 kills each. Emily Swanson had three kills and Tori Smith added a kill.
Heidemann also had 29 assists in the match and had one ace serve. Jadyn Schultis and Madelyn Meyerle also had an ace serve each.
"We had some great hitting performances from Kirsten and Mackenzie," Jurgens said. "Addie also did a great job of finding our hitters who were on and putting the sets in a spot for them to take good shots."
Defensively, Vitosh had three total blocks while Smith had two blocks and Swanson, Heidemann and Samantha Clifford had a block each. Heidemann had 14 digs and Vitosh had 10 digs.
Diller-Odell improves to 3-2 and will be in action again Thursday when they travel to Lewiston. The Lady Griffins will also play in the MUDECAS Tournament next week.
