OMAHA -- In a class between Class B's top two softball teams, Beatrice came up short Thursday night.

The Lady O, ranked No. 2 in Class B, fell to top-ranked Omaha Skutt 12-7 in Omaha.

Beatrice jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Omaha Skutt came back with three runs in the bottom of the first and added one more run in the bottom of the second.

Beatrice scored in the third inning, but Skutt answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-2.

The Lady O added another run in the fourth inning, but Skutt answered again with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-3.

Beatrice got two more runs in the fifth inning, but Skutt answered with two in the bottom of the fifth. Beatrice scored twice in the sixth inning, but that would be the last of the game's scoring, making the final score 12-7.

The Lady O had 11 hits in the game. Hannah Lytle had a double, a single, three RBI's and a run scored. Olivia Aden had two singles and two runs while Avery Barnard had two singles, a run and an RBI.

Addie Barnard had a double, two RBI's and a run scored. She was also walked three times. Adding a single each was Tavia Hausman, Carley Leners, Morgan Mahoney and Riley Schwisow.

Addie Barnard, Rylee Pangborn and Riley Schwisow all saw action in the circle for Beatrice. Omaha Skutt hit three home runs against Beatrice pitching. The Lady O defense had three errors in the game.

Beatrice falls to 18-3 on the season. The Lady O will be in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Ralston. They will be again on Thursday when they host Class B No. 3 Crete.

BHS volleyball falls to Duchesne

The Beatrice volleyball team dropped a home match to Omaha Duchesne Thursday night.

The Lady O fell in four sets 25-22, 24-26, 25-14, 25-16 at the Ozone in Beatrice.

Mariah Allen and Devyn Burroughs led the Lady O offense with eight kills while Kaitlyn Church had four kills, Avery Gaertig and Jayden Baete had two kills each and Chelsea Leners and Jaiden Coudeyras had one kill each.

Coudeyras had 22 assists in the match. From the service line, Burroughs and Allen had two aces each while Mak Hatcliff, Sadie Glynn and Church had one ace each.

Leners had three solo blocks while Burroughs and Glynn were in on one block. Hatcliff had 17 digs, Burroughs had 16 digs, Coudeyras had 15 digs and Allen had 12 digs.

Beatrice falls to 5-4 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when they host a triangular with Omaha Roncalli and South Sioux City.
