After an early loss to Omaha Skutt on Thursday, the Beatrice softball team was able to stave off elimination with a dominating win over Crete.
Beatrice pounded the Lady Cardinals 12-2 in five innings, extending their state tournament to Friday.
Earlier in the day, Beatrice fell to Omaha Skutt 8-5, which forced them into Thursday night's elimination game against Crete.
Beatrice will now play at 9 a.m. in an another elimination game and will continue to play until they're either eliminated, or crowned state champion.
Crete had defeated Beatrice twice during the season, including at districts, but the Lady O wasted no time jumping on top of them early on Thursday.
Olivia Aden led off the game with a solo home run -- her fourth home run of the tournament. Whitney Schwisow then doubled and Addie Barnard followed that up with a walk.
Ashton Sandman's fly ball was then mishandled, allowing another run to score. With two outs, Tavia Hausman's RBI double made it 3-0.
Crete bounced back with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, but it was all Beatrice after that.
In the second inning, with one out, Aden singled, Schwisow doubled and Barnard walked, which set up Ashton Sandman's grand slam home run, making it 7-2.
In the third inning, Rylee Pangborn singled and Carley Leners came into run for her. Leners moved up to second on a ground out and scored on Schwisow's RBI single, making it 8-2.
A walk to Barnard and a two-RBI single by Sandman made it 10-2.
Beatrice put the game away in the fifth inning when Schwisow walked and scored on Barnard's two-run home run, making it 12-2.
Crete got two runners on in the fifth inning, but they would be unable to score them, ending the game due to run rule.
Bailey Green pitched all five innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out two and walking one.
Against Skutt, Beatrice fell behind early and never recovered. They scored three runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Beatrice got to within two at 6-4, but Skutt held them off for the 8-5 win.
They lost despite two solo home runs by Aden and another home run by Hausman. Hausman also had a single while Hannah Lytle had two singles. Adding a single each was Schwisow, Barnard, Sandman and Reganne Henning.
Beatrice's record is now 28-8 on the season.
