OMAHA -- Beatrice had three chances to get wrestlers to the semifinals on Thursday but came up just short in all three.
Tanner York, Drew Arnold and Ben Garland all lost their quarterfinal matches in their respective matches.
York reached the quarterfinals of the 106-pound division by winning an 11-4 decision over Thomas Ivey of York, but then lost an 11-7 decision to Paul Garcia of Scottsbluff.
"Tanner wrestled well in the first round and he also wrestled well in the quarterfinals," said Beatrice coach Andrew Johnson. "That kid from Scottsbluff -- he's pretty solid. He's ranked No. 1 and he pushed the pace pretty well."
In the 113-pound division, Drew Arnold scored a 14-2 major decision win over Nick Demonte of Platteview in the 113-pound division, but then lost by pinfall to Caleb Lazure of Omaha Skutt in the quarterfinals.
"Drew wrestled well, he just got caught in a bad situation," Johnson said.
Senior Ben Garland notched a pinfall win over Caleb Laney of Plattsmouth in the 132-pound division, but then lost a 9-1 major decision to Mario Ybarra of Scottsbluff in the quarterfinals.
"All three of our quarterfinalists had to face guys who were in the top two of their weight," Johnson said. "So it was kind of a tough draw, but we've got a good road to come back through and I think we can bring home some medals on the back side."
Beatrice's other state qualifier, Aaron Shumaker, managed to take Noah Gugelman into sudden death overtime in the first round of the 195-pound division, but ultimately lost 6-4.
"That was another tough opponent for us," Johnson said. "We got those four points, but I think their kid just had a little bit more in the tank than we did. But he fought hard and he's got a good matchup in the morning."
All four Orangemen wrestlers will be trying to battle through the consolation bracket on Friday to earn a place in Saturday's medal rounds.
"I think we have a chance to get quite a few medals yet," Johnson said. "All of them have kids who they have beaten, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Norris can't get through to semis
The Norris wrestling team also fell short of reaching Friday's semifinal round.
They had two wrestlers reach the quarterfinals. In the 152-pound division, Matthew Harvey defeated Daquandre Perry of Boys Town by pinfall, but then lost by pinfall to Dalton Quandt of Northwest in the quarterfinals.
In the 182-pound division, Gavin Eason scored a 9-3 decision over Taylor Yancy of Cozad in the first round, but then lost a 5-1 decision to Eli Jansen of Omaha Skutt in the quarterfinals.
Norris' other qualifiers lost their first round match. In the 126-pound division, Clayton Williams lost by pinfall to Gage Perry of Columbus while Zachary Serna lost by pinfall to Pierro Garcia of Lexington in the 160-pound division.
Tyler Pester fell to Billy Higgins of Omaha Skutt in the first round of the 170-pound division while Dylan Meyer lost by pinfall to Wren Allen of Columbus Scotus in the 195-pound division.
The Norris wrestlers will also try to navigate the consolation bracket on Friday to try and earn a medal.
