Orangemen wrestlers open district action

Beatrice had a total of eight wrestlers reach the semifinals of the B-1 District Tournament being hosted by Bennington.

The Orangemen are currently in second place in the team standings behind Columbus Lakeview.

The Beatrice wrestlers who lost matches on Friday night could still reach by state by wrestling through the consolation bracket on Saturday and finishing in the top four of their weight classes.

Class B No. 1 Drew Arnold coasted into the semifinals of the 120-pound division. He received a first round bye before scoring a first round pinfall win over Norris' Chase Eggleston in the quarterfinals.

Class B No. 2 Trevor Reinke also scored a quick first round pinfall win over Josh Adkins of Plattsmouth in the quarterfinals of the 132-pound division.

In the 113-pound division, Bryce Karlin received a first round bye before scoring a pinfall win over Boys Towns' Zachary Whitbeck in the quarterfinals.

Cole Maschmann wrestled his way into the semifinals of the 145-pouind division. He received a bye in the first round before winning his quarterfinal match by pinfall over Norris' Brandon Stolzer. 

In the 152-pound division, Jarrett Koch received a first round bye before scoring a pinfall win over Omaha Gross' Nate Brennan in the quarterfinals.

Torrance Keehn got into the semifinals of the 160-pound division after winning his first match by pinfall over Bennington's Joseph Wells. He then won 13-11 decision over Ashland-Greenwood's Brian Maguire in the quarterfinals.

In the 170-pound division, Brody Nelson reached the semifinals by winning his first round match by pinfall over Boys Town's Connor Larsen. He then won a 9-1 major decision in his quarterfinal match against Bennington's Logan Burmester.

In the 182-pound division, Dakota Adams received a first round bye before winning his quarterfinal match by pinfall over Fairbury's Domenic Hyson.

Mario Bukovnik received a first round bye in the 126-pound division, but lost his quarterfinal match by pinfall to Lucien Engel of Columbus Lakeview. Bukovnik will try to navigate the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Brett Powers received a first round bye in the 138-pound division, but then lost to undefeated Trevor Kluck of Aurora in the quarterfinals. He'll wrestle in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Ian Roschewski lost his first round match by pinfall in the 106-pound division before receiving a second round bye. He'll wrestle in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In the 195-pound division, Brock Ostdiek received a first round bye, but then lost his quarterfinal match by pinfall to Columbus Lakeview's Austin Smith. Ostdiek will try to wrestle through the consolation bracket on Saturday.

Nolan Bahnson received a first round bye in the 220-pound division, but lost his quarterfinal match by pinfall to Norris' Dylan Meyer. Bahnson will try to navigate the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In the 285-poiund division, Zach Markey won his first round match by pinfall over Auburn's Trent Hall, but lost his quarterfinal match by pinfall to Columbus Lakeview's Bradyn Kucera.

Wrestling in the B-1 District Tournament will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m.
