OMAHA — Top-ranked Millard West scored five goals in the second half to crush unranked Omaha Westside 8-1 on Thursday morning in the first round of the Class A girls state tournament.

Millard West (16-1) led 3-0 at halftime, and then really put the game away with four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

The Wildcats advance to the state semifinals for the 14th straight year, and have won four championships during that stretch.

Grace Ostergaard led the Wildcats with three goals, and Reagan Raabe added two goals. Raabe has a team-best 21 goals this season.

Chaise Pfanstitel, Taylor Phillips and Sierra Schmidt also scored for Millard West. The Wildcats outshot Omaha Westside 18-9.

Omaha Westside (10-7) made state with a 5-4 upset win in overtime against Lincoln Southeast.

The Warriors’ only goal on Thursday was scored by Kaley Heinz on a corner kick midway through the second half.

Scoring on corner kicks was a big part of the Warriors’ success late in the season. Westside won the district championship match by scoring twice on corner kicks in overtime.

Gretna 3, Papillion-La Vista South 0: Freshman Savannah De Fini scored just five minutes into the match on a long shot and Gretna rolled to the first-round win. Sarah Weber and Sydney Zabloudil added second-half goals for the Dragons (14-3).
