OMAHA — Jackson Bates and Derek Tachovsky both lost decisions Saturday in their respective championship matches at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
Tachovsky lost a 3-0 decision to undefeated Matthew Kindler of Aquinas Catholic in the Class C 195-pound division.
The two wrestlers were tied 0-0 after the first period, but Kindler scored two points in the second period and a third point in the final period for the 3-0 lead.
Bates lost a 4-1 decision to Trent Daro of David City in the Class C 120-pound division. The score was 0-0 after the first period, but Daro scored a reversal late in the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
Bates got an escape in the third period to make it 2-1, but Daro was able to score two more points for the 4-1 win.
Wilber-Clatonia also got a third place finish from Riley Homolka in the 285-pound division and a sixth place finish from Jorge Hernandez in the 126-pound division.
The strong showing helped Wilber-Clatonia finish in the top five as a team in Class C and their season isn’t over. For the second consecutive year, the team qualified for next weekend’s State Duals Tournament in Kearney.
Beatrice seniors Jacob Pinkerton and Hunter Weiss both earned medals.
Pinkerton was able to earn fourth place in the 152-pound division while Hunter Weiss claimed sixth place in the 138-pound division.
Other medalists from the Sunland area include Fairbury’s Jacob Johnson finishing fourth in the Class B 170-pound division and Justyn Franklin finishing fifth in the 152-pound division.
In Class C, Johnson County Central’s Sam Saldivar finished sixth in the 106-pound division. In Class D, Freeman’s Jacobson Podtburg finished sixth in the 285-pound division.
