How did Brown’s Shoe Fit Company get started?
Brown’s Shoe Fit Company began in 1911 when founder Win A. Brown opened a small shoe store in Shenandoah, Iowa. He started by selling shoes locally, even going door-to-door to reach rural customers outside of town. Mr. Brown expanded by offering a unique opportunity: He turned store managers into partners by lending them money to start their own stores. That tradition continues today. The company now has 70-plus stores across the Midwest. Brown’s in Beatrice will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026.

What makes your store and services unique?
Expert service is at the heart of Brown’s. Our staff is trained to measure feet accurately, consider foot conditions such as bunions or plantar fasciitis, and help customers with hard-to-fit feet by offering a wide range of sizes and widths. Every store is locally owned and operated.
