If you’re looking for career opportunities, you won’t want to miss the Discovery and Career Days at Southeast Community College — a series of special events designed to set you on the path to a productive and fulfilling life.
“Education is a life changer for so many people, granting them access to a better future,” said Kat Kreikemeier, administrative director, admissions and career services. “These campus visits are a wonderful way to explore the many career possibilities out there and discover the one that’s right for you.”
Discovery Days
To experience what SCC is all about, attend one of the College’s Discovery Days. You’ll meet faculty, staff and students, tour the state-of-the-art facilities, and visit tables representing all of SCC’s programs, services and activities. Parents are welcome, too.
One of the most unique aspects of these events is the one-on-one attention you’ll receive.
“Students can sit with an advisor, learn about the enrollment process and get information that’s specific to their individual situation — everything from on-campus housing and scholarship information to what kind of jobs are available after you graduate,” said Kreikemeier. “We make sure people leave with all the information they need to be successful at SCC.”
Career Days
At SCC’s Career Days, you can test-drive a career you’re considering and get hands-on experience of what being on the job is really like.
Several Career Day events are scheduled throughout the academic year (both fall and spring) that cover a wide range of disciplines, including Construction, Ag, Automotive, Manufacturing, Engineering, Powersports and Transportation. The final career days for the 2023-2024 academic year are coming up March 21 and 22 with the Careers in Healthcare Days on the Lincoln Campus.
Why choose SCC?
The numbers alone tell SCC’s success story. The College offers more than 80 programs, encompassing everything from technical training and business to academic transfer. With an ideal 11-to-1 student-teacher ratio, you’ll get the individual attention you need. And 93% of recent SCC graduates are either employed or continuing their education.
Another reason for this remarkable success is the school’s state-of-the-art facilities. Students in the career and technical programs typically spend more than 50% of their time in the lab, practicing the skills they’ll be using every day as an employee, using the same up-to-date equipment they’ll find at work when they graduate. Within the last few years, SCC has added the Academic Excellence Center in Beatrice, the Health Sciences building in Lincoln, and the Crete Carrier Diesel Technology & Welding Center in Milford. Projects underway in Lincoln are the Sandhills Global Technology Center and the Welding Technology Center.
The academic and business programs not only teach traditional curricula, they also focus on engaged learning, with activities that develop skills in communication, teamwork, negotiation, conflict resolution and critical thinking.
What’s more, SCC has excellent scholarship opportunities, with more than $2.5 million in scholarships awarded in 2023.
“Right now, we’re encouraging high school seniors to complete the scholarship application, which is open through March 1,” said Kreikemeier. “The scholarship process is really easy. Just fill out one application, then we do all the work.”
