KEARNEY, Neb., May 27, 2026 — Nebraska Department of Transportation snowplow operators from across the state gathered today in Kearney for the annual Snowplow Roadeo, a competition testing their precision and driving skills. The event took place at the Nebraska Safety Center Driving Range and brings together top teams from eight districts after local contests.
Teams of two competed in a series of challenges, which included a pre-trip inspection to spot potential snowplow issues, a timed written test, and navigating an obstacle course simulating winter road maintenance scenarios. The event aims to assess operators’ attention to detail, precision, and problem-solving abilities in realistic conditions.
Sandra Postnikoff from Arapahoe and Andrew Zajic from Alma, both representing District 7, won the competition. Bill Weller and Travis Magary from Springview in District 8 finished as runners-up. These two teams will advance to the national competition during the APWA Western Snow and Ice Conference from September 30 to October 2 in Loveland, Colorado.
"The Snowplow Roadeo gives our operators a chance to put their training and experience to the test," said Tom Renninger, NDOT Operations Division Head. NDOT Director Vicki Kramer added, "We are proud of all teams and look forward to seeing our winners compete nationally. Safety is our top priority, and every winter our operators work diligently to keep Nebraska’s roads safe during challenging conditions."
